Hilltop School is a state and national School of Character that has a dedicated team of professionals that work together to meet the needs of our 249 prekindergarten through fourth-grade students. These young learners are immersed in programs that will prepare them socially, emotionally and academically for the world beyond Mendham Borough.
Along with a rigorous academic schedule that includes Teachers College Reading and Writing Project and Everyday Math 4, all students participate in art, music, library, physical education and technology programs in their related arts. Our third, and fourth-grade students receive instruction in Spanish two times each week, while our kindergarten and first-grade students have Spanish class once weekly. Our fourth graders can choose a brass or orchestra instrument to play, with lessons given weekly in a pull-out setting.
Our district's Integrated Pre-Kindergarten is located at Hilltop. The students have Physical Education, Library, and Art classes each week.
The Mendham Borough Home School Association (HSA) plays a vital role in the school. Their activities include volunteering in the library and cafeteria, arranging cultural arts-inspired programs, and ongoing fundraising efforts. The HSA provides direct benefits for our students and school while strengthening our sense of community.
Hilltop School is fortunate to have a Parent Council that serves as a liaison to the school community. I meet with them regularly to better understand community expectations and offer my viewpoints.
A unique feature of Hilltop School is our use of a community-building program called The Responsive Classroom. All 15 classes have a daily morning meeting where students gather to greet one another, share news, and warm up for the day ahead. The Responsive Classroom offers a way for teachers to emphasize the social, emotional and academic growth of all students in a strong, safe, school setting. This, along with our character education program, helps to establish caring, respectful students.
Hilltop School is a great place to learn and grow. I look forward to furthering my relationship with each and every Hilltop School student and family, as well as those within the Mendham community.
Our goal remains the same – educate the whole child and enjoy the experiences of an elementary school.
